Specialist Integrative Support for Every Stage of a Woman’s Life

Women’s mental health is deeply impacted by hormonal, emotional, relational , cultural and psychosocial factors. From adolescence through to menopause and beyond, influences such as  societal pressures, trauma, poverty, and discrimination,  along  with shifts in hormones, identity, and life roles can shape how women experience anxiety, mood, and wellbeing.

At Aedra Therapy Services, I provide specialist, trauma-informed therapy for women who want to understand themselves more deeply and heal through life’s transitions. My approach supports emotional regulation, self-connection, and recovery from anxiety, stress,  trauma, and body-related concerns.

Specialist Women’s Mental Health Therapy

Hormonal and Reproductive Mental Health

Hormonal fluctuations can significantly impact mood and emotional wellbeing. I offer support for:

  • PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) – therapy for mood changes, irritability, and emotional sensitivity related to the menstrual cycle

  • PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) – supporting body image, relationship with food, and emotional resilience

  • Pregnancy and Perinatal Mental Health – therapy for anxiety, birth trauma, and perinatal loss

  • Postpartum Depression and Adjustment – compassionate support for new mothers navigating mood changes and identity shifts

  • Menopause and Perimenopause – helping women manage anxiety, low mood, and emotional overwhelm during hormonal transitions

Therapy offers space to understand your experience, reduce isolation, and build emotional stability using body-informed and compassion-based approaches.

Trauma and Anxiety in Women

Statistics show us that trauma is common for women with  approximately 1 in 3 women experiencing physical or sexual violence in her lifetime. Women are more likely to be survivors of sexual assault and intimate violence. Consequently women experience PTSD at about twice the rate of men.  Complex PTSD is caused by prolonged, repeated and inescapable traumatic experiences such as childhood abuse or neglect, prolonged domestic violence or captivity. Many women experience anxiety and trauma symptoms linked to stress, relationship patterns, or early life experiences. Common areas I support include:

  • cptsd and ptsd

  • Generalised anxiety, panic, or health anxiety

  • Intrusive thoughts and overthinking

  • Complex trauma, relational trauma, and chronic stress

  • Perfectionism, over-control, and emotional numbing

Using trauma-informed and somatic approaches, therapy helps to calm the nervous system, process trauma safely, and build a sense of internal security and self-trust.

Eating Disorders and Body Image

There  are numerous, complex factors that raise a person's risk for eating disorders and body image distress, including genetic, biological, behavioural, psychological and social and cultural pressures.

I specialise in:

  • Anorexia, atypical anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder

  • Restriction and compulsive exercise cycles

  • Body image distress and appearance-based self-worth

Therapy combines CBT-E, Schema Therapy, IFS, somatic therapy and compassion-focused approaches to help women move toward food freedom, body acceptance, and self-kindness.

Mood and Personality-Related Conditions

Some mental health conditions appear more frequently or differently in women. I offer therapy for:

  • Bipolar disorder – understanding mood cycles and hormonal triggers

  • Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) / Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) – improving emotional regulation, self-esteem, and relationships

  • Substance misuse – understanding the emotional roots of addictive patterns with compassion

Each woman’s story is unique. Therapy at Aedra Therapy Services is collaborative and paced safely, meeting you where you are.

Therapeutic Approach

My integrative and evidence-based approach includes:

  • CBT, Schema Therapy, and DBT-informed tools

  • Transference Focused Psychotherapy

  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy

  • IFS (Internal Family Systems) and Somatic Experiencing (SE)

  • Compassion-focused and attachment-based frameworks

  • Psychoeducation about hormones, the nervous system, and emotional regulation

Together, we explore how your body, brain, and emotions interact — helping you understand your experiences and build lasting change.
